Trying to decide between these two baby girl names?

My husband and I don't know the gender of our baby, but we finally decided on a boy's name...Adam James (A.J.). However, now we can't agree between Alyssa and Lexi for a girl. If we choose Lexi, it will be Lexi, not Alexa or Alexis or any other girl name where Lexi would be just a nickname.

Lexi- i know a girl and her name is Lexi, nothing else and she loves her name. i think it is gorgeous!

Alyssa- i like this name too.



they are both good names and if i had to pick one i'd probably choose Lexi:)

Most Alexis I know goes by Lexi



Two different people come to mind

You could wait and see the child and see if she seem more a lexi or Alyssa



You have time, you could wait and see if one name grows on the both of you



Both would make fine names



All the Alyssa and Lexi I know are very nice, all the Alyssa are under 13

I like Alyssa better, just because Lexi is going to be very common. Besides just Lexi, all of the other names with the nickname are very very popular. You call Lexi at a playground and five girls will look up at you.

Personally I really like the name Alyssa as well. It's very cute, yet good for all ages, and nice and feminine.

Lexi is a juvenile nickname. It's cute when the full name is Alexandra or Alexis, etc.. but to only have the only option of Lexi her whole life? It's too limiting. What if she wants to be some high powered lawyer? or.. a congresswoman? Lexi is so informal and babyish.



Alyssa is at least a formal, nice, female name. It will go a long way.
I like Lexi the best.

Because it sounds like a name that would really fit an outgoing and bubbly girl/woman. Alyssa is cute too but it isn't as happiness sounding as Lexi.

And if your baby girl perhaps would get a little baby brother, Lexi and Adam sounds better then Alyssa and Adam which might be a bit too matchy as they would have to share the same first letter.
Alyssa is a VERY common name, and in my experience,

many of the girls around here with that name are mean or reserved.

Lexi is a beautiful little girl's name and it can fit a more outgoing person

her entire life.



It's sad that people never really get creative with male names though. :(

A.J. is cute for a nickname, but Adam James sounds so plain..
Lexi is nice and an unusual name (usually Alexa/Alexis like you said)

I also like Alyssa, but prefer Elyssa...

If you're definite on the spellings, then I'd say Lexi is the best :)

Also, if your profile name tells the truth then Trent and Lexi go better than Trent and Alyssa...
I think you need to consider that Lexi is great for a child's name but may not come across as well as your daughter gets older. If you're partial to Lexi I suggest you reconsider using it as a nickname
I like Lexi more, I think it's cute without being too trendy or the kind of name that won't fit your daughter when she is older. Alyssa has negative connotations for me but it's a personal thing.
I like Lexi vs Alyssa bc Lexi sounds more fun and outgoing Alyssa sounds shy and quiet.
Lexi for sure! She will be more popular and not get made fun of so much because she has a cool name. By the way AJ's don't get made fun of either.
I would go with Alyssa over Lexi - cute for a little girl %26amp; can be a professional name when she is older (as opposed to Lexi)
i like Lexi cuz its cute and short. and i think she would prolly be one of those kids who acctually likes their name when they grow up, lol.

I like Alyssa but she will probably end up being calley Allie, so why not just name her Allie.

btw I Love A.J. My nephew is Anthony James (A.J.)
I prefer Alyssa, because I don't like Lexi as a name standing on it's own.
